Welcome! Please feel free to grab a cup of coffee, or a glass of wine, and wander amongst my paintings. My paintings reflect my emotional connection to the Magic and Mystery of nature that surrounds me.

But what is Magic? For me, Magic is the sound of wind, the smell of weather, the dappling of light, the dance of leaves, even rust on a barrel; nothing conventional, usually imaginary, sensitive, sensual, thought provoking.

To begin with, I work intuitively; playing with combinations of colors and textures until the painting nudges me, and reminds me of a feeling, a place, a poem.

Echos of the Storm

8 x 10 Acrylic on paper - framed

$100

…a powerful sense of sweeping movement and rugged beauty, almost like a wild, rocky landscape beneath a dramatic sky.

Falling Leaves, Rising Mist

8 x 10 Acrylic on Paper

$100

I think this pieces capture that quiet moment when leaves start drifting down and the morning mist begins to lift. I love how everything feels soft and in-between—like the world is pausing for a breath. The colors and layers remind me of autumn mornings when change is in the air, but it’s peaceful, too.

Where the Light Fell

Where the Light Fell captures a fleeting moment when light breaks through the forest canopy, illuminating textures of earth, bark, and mist. Painted intuitively, this piece invites the viewer to pause and feel the quiet wonder of nature’s subtle transformations. Soft, layered tones evoke both mystery and warmth, reflecting the ever-changing dance of light and shadow in the wild.

24 X 18 Acrylic on Canvas. $250

Embers and Echos

Acrylic on Paper

8 X 10 Framed

$100

This piece came together with the feeling of fading fire and lingering memory. The warm, smoky colors remind me of embers cooling in the dark, and the marks feel like traces of something once spoken. It’s about what lingers—after the spark, after the sound, after the moment has passed.

Night Flight

Acrylic on Canvas

24 X 48

$675

My husband and I were flying across the north Atlantic last year. At about three in the morning the sun appeared as a bright pink ball in the dark sky, barely illuminating the clouds around it. It was jaw dropping, and mysterious, and the inspiration for this painting.

What the Trees Remember

Acrylic on Canvas

16 x 20 $190

While painting this, I was, thinking about how trees hold stories in their rings and branches. It’s about the quiet strength of the forest and the sense that time moves differently among old trees. Layers of soft, earthy colors capture the feeling of memories held in bark and leaves.

Veil of Morning

Acrylic on Canvas

12 X 36

$250

This painting is all about the soft light of early morning when mist still hangs in the air. It’s about that quiet, gentle moment when the day is just beginning and everything feels calm and full of possibility.

Bones of Old Trees

Acrylic on Canvas

22 X 28

$350

This piece came from an image I couldn’t shake—the bare, weathered forms of trees long past their prime, still standing. I painted it intuitively, thinking about what remains when the rest has fallen away. The lines and textures feel like memory and structure—what the forest leaves behind when time does its work.

Water Sprites

Acrylic on Canvas

28 X 22

$350

There’s something playful about this one—light flickering on water, movement darting just out of sight. But like any still pond, there’s a sense that something deeper lives just below the surface. I was thinking about those hidden layers—the mischief and the mystery—and letting the brush do the dancing.

Whispers in Water

Acrylic on Canvas

24 X 48

$675

I never intended to paint fish, they just started appearing on the canvas, so I went with the flow. I hope I I managed to capture the quiet magic happening underwater—the way fish dart and currents swirl, all hidden from view but full of life. Layers of color and texture give a sense of movement and abundance, like a secret world unfolding just beneath the surface.

Through Green Dark

Acrylic on Canvas

36X36

$775

Green was the silence, wet was the light,

the month of June trembled like a butterfly.

Pablo Neruda, 100 Love Sonnets

After the Rain

Acrylic on Canvas

36 X 12

$300

I think this painting captures the feeling of standing outside right after a summer shower, when ink the sun breaks through the clouds and everything sparkles. Drops of water cling to leaves, and the evening light makes the colors come alive.

Sun Scorched

Acrylic on Canvas

30X14

$300

For this piece, I let the bright, warm colors guide me. It’s inspired by the feeling of late summer days when the sun is strong and everything shimmers with heat.

Chasing the Light

Acrylic on Canvas

20 x 29

$350

I painted this intuitively, drawn by the way light moves through a landscape—always shifting, never still. It’s about trying to hold onto something fleeting: the last rays of sun, the glow through the trees, that golden moment before it fades. The brushstrokes and color shifts reflect that search.

Down by the Witchy Garden

Arylic on Canvas

12 x 36

$250

It’s funny where titles come from. I was painting along, when the phrase “down in the Witchy Garden popped into my head, so I went with it. It reminds me of a place half-real, where the wind moves low across the fields and the garden feels like it has a mind of its own. The colors and textures felt a little haunted in the best way—like something beautiful and a little unruly was just there and gone again.

Across the Misty Mountains Cold

Acrylic and Mixed Media on Canvas

30 x 40

$700

Hazy peaks rise and fall through layers of cloud, like something remembered rather than seen. Painted intuitively, this piece hints at ancient places, long walks, and the stories mountains keep to themselves.

Once I finished this piece, I wanted to name it something that would reference coal mining. Then I remembered an Instagram post I had recently seen of Tee2Sugars’ wall mural in Rhymney, Wales. I loved the accompanying text, which I later discovered was from the Rita MacNeil’s famous song, “Working Man”. The second picture, also by Tee2Sugars is in Abertillery, Wales.

Prophecy Tree

Acrylic and Ink on Canvas

32” x 23”

$425

Early Sunday morning, I stepped outside to investigate an incredibly loud noise. It was a large flock of crows (some insist a flock of crows is a “murder”, others are just as adamant that it is simply a flock)flying through the trees and cawing to each other. I caught the tail end of their party on my phone…

I looked up the symbolic meaning of crows: Transformation, Change and Prophecy.

Acrylic on Canvas

No title was coming to mind for this painting, so I posted it to Instagram and Facebook, and asked for suggestions. Dave said, “I like the name bobbles. The thingy on Children's hats as they scurry home before the sunset.” Sabine liked the name “Celestial Lanterns”. Tony suggested “The awakening”, and Michael said,”Paper Lanterns over Sedona.”

My 3 year old Grandson wanted me to call it “Pretzel”. Carol liked “Waking of the Orbs”, and Doug suggested “Reflections from Above”.

It’s interesting to find out what other people see. I may try it again!

Fall from Grace

My family and I visited Wales during Christmas 2017. One of the highlights for me was a trip to Tintern Abbey, which served as the inspiration for this painting.

The Hills series

The following four paintings were all inspired by Arthur Guiterman’s poem, “Hills”. I fell in love with this poem when I was in High School. I lost my paper copy, and searched through poetry books at the library for years. Recently, I thought I’d try again, using the internet this time. So I searched up beginning lines of poems…I never loved your fields, your flat lands, your plains…Bingo!!

Hills

Arthur Guiterman (1871-1943)

I never loved your plains!–
Your gentle valleys,
Your drowsy country lanes
And pleach’d alleys.

I want my hills! — the trail
That scorns the hollow.–
Up, up the ragged shale
Where few will follow,

Up, over wooded crest
And mossy bowlder
With strong thigh, heaving chest,
And swinging shoulder,

So let me hold my way,
By nothing halted,
Until, at close of day,
I stand, exalted,

High on my hills of dream–
Dear hills that know me!
And then, how fair will seem
The lands below me,

How pure, at vesper-time,
The far bells chiming!
God, give me hills to climb,
And strength for climbing!

After I painted this, a photo popped up on Instagram of a rock formation in the Welsh Beacon Brecons called “The Diving Board”. I immediately added it to my list of places to visit. I can only imagine the breathtaking feeling of looking out from the diving board into the wind and the light and the magic!

“Art is our memory of love. The most an artist can do through their work is say, let me show you what I have seen, what I have loved, and perhaps you will see it and love it too.

Spring Comes Late this Year

Latex and Acrylic on Canvas

Last Saturday, the day after Saint Patricks Day we had quite a storm...not much accumulation, but the wind was howling, and snow was blowing in every direction.

Then the sun popped out.

I had no intentions when I started this one; I was painting merrily along, and turned the canvas upside down. Suddenly I had woods on a hill, and snow…Spring comes late this year.

Leap of Faith

There are positive and negatives to every aspect of life. On a recent camping trip, our tent was shredded by a sudden storm…negative. So we pulled our truck up next to the Ohio River, and woke up to dawn breaking ….amazing.

The video, obviously is not for sale. I just wanted to share this little bit of dawn magic with you.

Home from the Sea

Acrylic on Canvas

You’ve been away for a long time, years perhaps. You fight your way through storms and fog and disappointment, until finally you arrive, only to find that you can’t see the place you’ve longed for.

Then the clouds part, the fog lifts, you catch a glimpse, and at last, you know that you are home.

Heading North - October

Acrylic on 18 X 24 Canvas

$300

After a long week of teaching, I head north; away from the bustle of the big city, and into the rural buzz of insects, the breeze that sways the grass, and the soar of birds.

As the seasons progress, the soy fields change from the green of summer, to a beautiful chestnut color in October.

The Realm of Ravens

Acrylic on Canvas

It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.

Frost on the Chimney Pots

24 X 36

Acrylic on Canvas

$595

Chimney Pots are extensions of the chimney that increases the updraft. Beginning in the 18th century they became more ornamental. In this piece you will see the hard edges of chimney pots, the translucence of smoke, and the crispness of frost.

Winner of a Bronze Award from the All Abstract 2022 International Juried Art Competition by the Camelback Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The Skein

24 X 36 Acrylic on canvas.

$595

I thought about painting Canadian Geese for 2 years before I actually put my thoughts on canvas. Geese on the ground are a gaggle, geese in the air are a skein. These geese mate for life, only finding a new mate if theirs dies.

The wind that comes off a goose’s wing is shaped like a volute. If they flew in a line, the goose behind would have to work harder to fly. By flying behind and to the side, the goose behind gets a small lift.

Tide Pool

Acrylic on Canvas

24 X 24

$325

A tide pool is a shallow pool of seawater. Many of these pools exist as separate bodies of water only at low tide.

Many tide pool habitats are home to especially adaptable animals; sea stars, mussels and clams.

Tangerine Morning

Acrylic and Oil Pastel on Canvas

$300

The Smell of Autumn

I love the smell of Autumn; slightly dry and powdered, slightly of earthy and decomposing plants. I love the promise of cooler weather, and I love the colors.

Crow in a wet wood $110.00

One wet Saturday morning there was a murder of crows perched on our wood rack. Moments later, I was reading Louise Fletcher’s email about her book, “Life Force”, in which she based her paintings on the poetry of Ted Hughes. I looked up the poetry of both Mr. Hughes and his wife, Sylvia Plath. Ted Hughes wrote a poem called “the Crow”, and Sylvia Plath wrote a poem called “Black Rook in Rainy Weather”. Too many coincidences in such a short amount of time led to this painting.

Power of Wind and Water $110.00

Until 2018, my experiences of the ocean have been of clean beaches and rolling waves. It wasn’t until we visited Sligo, Ireland in 2018 that I saw my first powerful sea.

We tried to visit Mullaghmore Beach in January. The wind was so strong we had trouble opening the car doors, and once we did that, we were immediately soaked through.

It was powerful, scary and exhilarating! I tried to capture some of that feeling in this painting.

Dawn

During the summer of 2021, I decided to get up early every morning, usually around 5AM, and get my painting time in before it got hot, and before I got busy with other things. The paintings that came from this endeavor are all sunrise pictures. I didn’t intend it to happen - I have to believe that the pictures themselves wanted to represent that most beautiful time of day.
